Miramichi Striper Notes 10/15/2026
Just a little over 2 weeks remain in the Northumberland Strait striped bass season.
This week has been eventful. Steady temperatures that are slightly below seasonal have finally given break to the stubborn river temperatures. Temps have started to approach the mid to low 50s. As we move into the weekend things are poised to become even more productive. There have been some windy, weather filled days as of late and some choppy and wet rides looking around for bass which are still gathering in greater and greater numbers. Fish are now being seen in clusters lifting into some of the fresher water (which is always noteworthy when a nasty wave breaks and hits you in the face).
With the forecast sitting the way it is, fishing should just continue to get better and using cut bait should be something not solely relied upon. Aggressive, plastic hitting fish are now creeping up river. Fish on scope are moving a lot with the cooling water and are cruising even in the usual lower river bait fishing areas - they are kicked on and poised to push up.
I spent an evening over the weekend looking for shallower running bass further up the system and made note of a lot of movement. We will be seeing what should be a hot artificial bite for the upcoming fall striper cup for those who will be participating. Unlike years past which have seen hot periods throwing curveballs this year is poised to be a great year for getting fall bass on plastics. Personally I believe if the season didn’t end in October people would see even hotter bites into November with the number of fish that hit the system and move into tight clusters in shallow water.

I would like to mention again the food drive for the Miramichi Community Food Bank. Each non perishable donated is an entry to win a fantastic all inclusive fishing package including a nights stay, meal and fishing trip. Its a fantastic prize for a fantastic cause.
